Food Allergy Wellness Network
Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)
OIT is a treatment for food allergy that uses carefully measures amounts of real food to gradually increase the amount of an allergen your child can tolerated. Treatment begins with very small amounts and increases over time at a pace tailored to your child.
The goal can look different for every child. For most, OIT provides protection against accidental exposures. Others may reach a point where they can freely eat the food in their diet. And for some children, treatment may eventually lead to remission- meaning they can continue to tolerate the food even after regular dosing has stopped.
Together, we'll set goals that make sense for your child and adjust treatment based on their individual response.
